LaBelle Florida winter season

Thought we should check in as we have not traveled much since January. We have been enjoying great weather here just 20 miles east of Fort Myers at our site in Riverbend Motor Coach Resort. Great temperatures and interesting people make for a pleasant stay.

We have also made plans to have our site paved with smart looking pavers this April while we are in Mt Pleasant. Thus will extend the site closer to the Grand Lake and add some 450 square feet to the area. That means more space for outdoor furniture! So we purchased a six person dining set, more umbrellas this season and enjoyed them already. We ordered a sectional with side tables and an ottoman to be delivered in October. Since we spend most of our time outside we wanted to have options fir us as well as entertaining.

It’s exciting to plan all these changes and means we are invested in this resort and our time here.

We have enjoyed local celebrations while here – the Swamp Cabbage Festival and Parade as well as attending our first small town rodeo.

The Budweiser Clydesdales even made an appearance.

We joined a tour of the area’s farming and cattle raising areas sponsored by Hendry County staff and learned a great deal about the growing of organic and conventional vegetables, sugar cane as well as raising of beef cattle. Florida is responsible for a high percentage of these products to the rest of the country – it’s fascinating to see how it is accomplished. We saw complex machines in action sorting sugar cane stalks, vegetables being planted and nurtured by thousands of farm workers from Mexico and Central America and witnessed cattle and their calves grazing happily in the acres and acres of pasture lands.

We also enjoyed a two hour tour if the area by river on a pontoon boat and were intrigued by the guide’s stories and history of the area.

The Caloosahatchee River winds from Fort Myers to the grand Lake Okeechobee in the state’s southern center. Many ancient native civilizations depended on this source of food and transportation. Today there are lovely homes and farms along her banks but fossils remain to tell her amazing early stories.

It’s been a season full of fun events here at the resort as well as great relaxation. It’s good to stand still fir a while and reflect on all that has transpired during the last year of travel. We are also planning 2018 travels which include a two month Fantasy RV Tour to the Yukon and Alaska in addition to several weeks in Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Parks. We will also stop in Indiana at the Entegra Factory for our two year check up and a homecoming rally as well as attending a five day course at the Spartan factory in southern Michigan. We will visit friends and family along the way and look forward to seeing more of this incredibly beautiful country! We hope to check off at least eight more states and several Canadian Provinces this year. Our next post will be about the 2018 Trip details.

Thanks for joining us on this fabulous ride!
